Our first stop of the day will be Lugard’s Grocery in Nakuru. This is our “usual” rations and petrol stop. The proprietor, Mathew Lugard, is always up to date on local gossip and game info. Since he gets customers going to and coming from the Masai Mara region, he might have some juicy news of the area. Lugard’s always seems to have a good supply of fresh vegetables and meats, plus the store also carries a fair amount of hunting/camping supplies. Even though this is the only store of his kind for probably 75 miles, the prices seem to be really fair. Petrol prices are always lower than the stations in the more tourist area on the southern edge of Masai Mara Game Reserve. (which is exactly where we are heading).
