“I tried counting sheep, but a lion ate one of them.”

(The world is fresh and new.)

Heading back inside, I’m startled to see Miles sitting on my favorite coach, sipping coffee from the cup I had selected and placed next to the coffee maker.

“Thanks for the coffee, Chuck,” he said with his best sarcastic grin. “I couldn’t sleep either. I had lions on the brain all night.”

“Yeah, me too. I tried counting sheep, but a lion ate one of them. I’ll be glad to get this safari behind us. The weather has cleared. There is a brilliant sunrise.”

“Yes, I can see. The hunt will be fine, Mate. We will be fine. Get some coffee and sit for a few.”

“Yep, will do. Guess I’ll use my second most favorite cup.”

“By the way, Chuck,” Miles asks from across the room. “Why do you think Meredith has never remarried?”
