Setting the receiver down she picks up her almost clean coffee cup and walks across the hall to the break room and pours herself a fresh cup of coffee with extra cream. Looking up at the clock on the wall she thinks to herself, “It’s only 5:45 in the afternoon in Nairobi, I’ll wait a couple of hours and catch Charlie about his dinner time. Maybe if he’s had a couple of glasses of wine, he might be easier to handle. I’ll go make my rounds.”
As Chief Veterinarian, her responsibilities include all the inhabitants at the zoo. Her first love, though, are the big cats. The main zoo is divided into regions, or habitats. Every morning, about this time, she visits the section, ‘Africa Rocks’, to check on her favorites, the lions and leopards. They live on ‘Big Cat Trail’.
It is a beautiful sunny morning. It is warmer than usual for Southern California in February. Meredith is wearing her red ‘Zoo’ knit shirt and her khaki trousers. For age 43, she gives the initial impression of someone in her mid 30’s.
